The days of our lives

The days of our lives, for all of us, are numbered. We know that. And yes, there are certainly times when we aren't able to muster as much strength and patience as we would like. It's called being human. But I have found that in the simple act of living with hope, and in the daily effort to have a positive impact in the world, the days I do have are made all the more meaningful and precious. And for that, I am grateful...

Seize the day!!! and look after what makes you happy...

This space is to shorten the distance between us...

“My life has been blessed with and amazing family, many friends
who have crossed my path, blessed with many experiences but
most of all, blessed with a heart that does not give up.”

7 years old after my
second surgery

A little bit about me. I was born in Panama in 1977 with a heart defect called “Double outlet right ventricle, pulmonary stenosis and VSD” and years later they discovered an atrial septal defect. I have had four surgeries, a palliative Blalock-Tausing and three open heart surgeries. I had my first pacemaker at age 7 and I a changed of mitral valve to a mechanical valve at the age of 27.  I developed heart failure at age 20. And now I need a new heart (Heart Transplantation).

It's easy to feel overwhelmed by these circumstances, but you develop mechanisms to cope with your condition, whatever your condition is.  This sounds easier than it actually is, but there are many people who want to assist and help you. It took me years to admit it. When you recognize it and allow people to help you, your world changes.

My Family
My way of coping is to know that there will always be better days and try to spend those days calmly thinking that tomorrow I'll feel better, although I must say it is not easy.

Definitely I would prefer not to have this condition, but I have embraced it as gracefully, as a result of it, I have worked harder to achieve my goals, I have met many incredible people that have molded my character, I have cultivated special friendships, I am more human and have been the recipient of the most indescribable kindness and generosity.   It may sound strange, but sometimes this adventure has been exciting and fun. All in all, I consider myself fortunate and greatly blessed.

Just part of my greatest group of friends

In my case, I am determined not be conquered by it, and I hope you can humbly walk with me in this adventure.  I feel blessed and grateful to have such amazing family and friends who have been with us in the most serious trials and many joys.
If you think you know people how can help, please share this story with them.  I need as mucho help as I can get.

With much love,
Nadia Sofia
